Miss Playa de Nueva York + Other Forgotten Stories

Miss Playa de Nueva York is about my mother’s 12-year journey with Alzheimer’s Dementia. She was an actress, one of seven siblings, raised by Scots-Irish parents in Greenwich Village. She met my father on the Fire Island ferry and loved him for many years.

In 1952, a friend entered her in a beauty contest. She was crowned Miss Playa de Nueva York and won prizes, including a trip to Spain. She died peacefully in Los Angeles, in May, 2018.
